Thinking of buying a new television? This is how you should choose the right size.

In one of our most recent blogs, we wrote about the reasoning behind why screens are measured diagonally. This has been a tradition from the early days of TV manufacture. These days, the frame around the TV itself and cabinets are becoming thinner and thinner. Having a large TV screen quickly becomes luxurious, and many people opt in for these large sized television sets before taking into account several other factors that could save them a lot of money in the long run. Know the question is, what should you be looking at when choosing your TV size?

Choosing the best TV size for you

The first thing one should take in consideration is the quality of the screen. This should be your first priority. So, that big “cheap” TV that you have your mind set on might be calling your name,  you may be at risk of taken advantage of through being grossly overcharged for that television. If you have made the decision to buy a new television, then you will want to make sure what you are spending your money on is worth it. So, you should stick to those 4K quality or equivalent televisions to get the best deals.

The second important thing to consider when looking for a new TV, is the fact that it is not always about fitting the biggest possible television into the space you have available. A simple approach, we always recommend, is to assess how close you will be sitting when watching television. With the latest releases of 4K televisions from Samsung, Panasonic, Sony and LG, you’re guaranteed to have super sharp images wherever you sit. You should still however keep in mind that the angle and where about you sit in relation to your newly bought TV can have a big impact. You should shouldn’t be afraid to measure your area.

Have you ever heard of The 4K TV rule of thumb guide? Well, it goes as follows: the user should aim to be seated 1.5 to 2.5 times the diagonal screen measurement away from the TV. This will allow you to maximise your viewing experience. For example, if your television is a 50-inch, then a distance of at least 150 inches is recommended.

TV Distance Guide

So, we have created a guide that will help you if you already know the distance between your seating arrangements and the screen.  You can choose a size that will be neither too big nor too small for daily use with the perfect picture quality.

1.4 metres/ 4.5 feet

This is a television set that will be very close to the viewer. It could perhaps be a kitchen display set and in this case, one should consider purchasing one of our cheap 32 inch TVs to keep you company while you cook, or even to play cooking tutorials on.

1.8 metres/ 6.0 feet

If you have a little extra space in your room, then perhaps a television at the end of the bed for those late night movies snuggled under the duvet, is a good choice. You can consider investing in one of those cheaper 43 inch TVs for the ultimate viewing angle.

2.0 metres/ 6.7 feet

Do you want to create the home cinema display of your dreams? Then you can consider a 48 inch TV that can be placed 2m away from your favourite sofa.

More Modern Updates

Something important to remember is that a modern 50-inch television tends to fit into the same area that a 42-inch TV would have fit in previously. With this in mind, remember that this means that updating your existing TV will be easier than ever!
